Vintage Postcard

Vintage Postcards from Cardcow.com

Found this cool vintage postcard of my favorite building on Adrian College's campus. It's Downs Hall, the only building that remains of the original campus. This building is almost 150 years old, and was used as part of the Underground Railroad. It now houses an intimate studio theater, and an art gallery. Oh, and yes, it is haunted.

Dominick the Christmas Donkey

Now, I grew up in the time of Rankin-Bass Christmas specials, and so my Christmas donkey is named, "Nestor, the Long-Eared Donkey".
My son, Eli is crazy about Dominick. It was actually released on vinyl in 1960 by a man named Lou Monte. Here is a funny little home-made music video featuring the song.

What is WIZARDROCK?

I'm bored with the radio standards. I know that this probably means that I am now of the older generation that hates the new generation's music. Bleah! (That's the sound of me sticking my tongue out...)

I've found something new and cool, though! If you aren't familiar, let me introduce you to WIZARDROCK! My new obsession began with Harry and the Potters, but I've now become a fan of many of these bands, like The Parselmouths, Roonil Wazlib, and of course, Draco and the Malfoys.

I absolutely LOVE Ministry of Magic, a sort of techno-dance wiz band. Nick says that I must like it because of the 80's influence, and you can definitely hear a little New Order in their stuff. (What can I say? I am a child of the 80's!) Their music is by far the best-mastered stuff that I've heard of Wizardrock. Try their biggest hit first, called "Accio Love", which is a collaboration between the Moaning Myrtles and MoM on their MySpace page at: http://www.myspace.com/ministryofmagicmusic

Another inspired new wizrock artist to try is Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls. He's sort of Jason Mraz meets Professor Lupin. Try "Open at the Close" on his page: http://www.myspace.com/oliverboydandtheremembralls

One more that I really like: Roonil Wazlib's "Bookworm". Roonil Wazlib is a folksy-wizard rock band. Bookworm is (of course) about Hermione, and for those who identify with her, you'll want your own copy of this tribute to Hermione.
Bookworm is here: http://www.myspace.com/roonilwazlibrock

I found Ministry of Magic so catchy, I had to buy the download of the whole album. Some of the single songs however, are available to download for free at each of the band's MySpace pages. If you find a band that you really love, support your indy band by buying their album from CD Baby, which actually sends all the proceeds to the band.
